How The Big Cats Came To Sumata
Sumata was not always a big cat Reserve. It wasn't even called Sumata. It used to be a barren, grassy Savannah. The Gods and Goddesses were the fierce and proud rulers of the Sumata.
Ciro, the God of the Sun, was the very first lion. He was born from the sky. His Mane was long and flowing, golden rays of the sun. His mate Soma, the Moon Goddess, was born from the stars. She was sleek and beautiful. Her face round and her pelt white. Together they raised a proud family. Ciro was so proud of his kin that he called them a Pride.
The other Gods and Goddesses were born not long after. Edana was born from fire, caused by lightning that struck the barren earth. She was the first Leopard, she raised a fierce family, she called it the Leap.
Calder was born from a puddle. He was a great Jaguar and raised a powerful family, calling them a Jamboree. He cut the river through the territory, dividing it into two.
Avani was born from the grass. She created the forest. She raised her family in the jungle and both the jungle and her family grew. The Forest grew so great that it cut into the Leap and Jamboree's territory. Avani was the first tiger and she loved her stripes. She was proud of her kin and the stripes in her fur thus she named her family a Streak.
Indsawas the first Cheetah. He was born from a great gust of icy wind. He was the first Cheetah and the God of Air. Indsa was a fast cat, much faster than the leopard and he was very strategic and political too. Thus he named his family a Coalition.
The 5 families lived in peace and ruled the Sumata fairly. But one day there was a great storm. It was so great that it blew down towering trees and created huge waves in the river. There was lightning that caused great fires that raged across the Savannah. The storm raged for days and the Gods and Goddesses could not seem to stop it.
Ciro was fed up. He had kept the storm from harming his pride for so long. He needed to find the source. There was a great amount of wind so he and Soma confronted Indsa. But the Cheetah was not the cause of the storm. He was trying desperately to keep the winds from knocking down the rocks that produced his family. Ciro understood and told the Air God to come with him. Together they would find the source of this terror.
The two Gods then confronted Avani for there had been a great amount if trees that were knocked down. Avani said that she was not doing it. She joined the Gods in the search for the culprit. They approached Edana because of the great fires. She was not the problem either. They continued on to the only God that was left: Calder.
Calder was insulted. Why would he cause such a storm. But he did know who was to blame. His Daughter Weusi.
Weusi was not like any Jaguar that the Gods have seen before. Instead of the usual golden, spotted pelt, her fur was solid black. Blacker than the shadows that surrounded her. But they knew that she was dangerous and all of the Gods gathered together and fought Weusi.
But this feline was stronger than she looked. She easily defeated the other Gods and Goddesses until only Ciro remained. They battled viciously until Ciro had finally won. He was prepared to kill Weusi when Calder begged him not too. Ciro was sympathetic and banished Weusi to the bowls of darkness far away from the Sumata.
But who would keep her away? Who would make sure that she never came back??
Ciro called all of the Gods and Goddesses together and they came up with a plan. Indsa had become the wind that swept through the plains to forever keep an eye out for Weusi. Calder agreed to become the water that rushed through the river. Avani had become the ridge that stood at the edge of the Savannah. Edana had become the burning courage and adventure that blazed through the hearts of all felines.[color=Light Soma[/color] didn't want to depart from her kin or her mate but she knew they she had too. She had become the moon, guarding the felines as they slumbered. She was also the keeper of the stars, the good cats that had passed and earned their place in the stars. Last but not least stood Ciro. He already missed his mate but knew that what she did was for the best. Ciro had become the sun, the golden rays of his mane stretching across that Savannah forever protecting his kin and the other felines from Weusi's darkness.

The Felines
- This story had been passed from feline to feline from generation ton generation. This is the most important legend in Sumata history.
- All lions are the descendants from Ciro and his mate Soma
- All Cheetahs are the descendants from Indsa.
- All Leopards are the descendants from Edana.
- All Jaguars are the descendants from Calder.
- Tigers are the descendants from Avani.
- All black panthers are said the be Weusi's kin and for that they are usually looked down on. But many have proved to be loyal and trustworthy unlike Weusi.
- The lions had never forgotten their kin and they had lived in peace until humans came and claimed their territory. But instead of tearing up their home they turned the Sumata into a reserve and every once in a while knew cats came in to live with the families.
